Riding Home

Just a while ago, I was standing up in a St. Rose bus because I went home a tad earlier than usual *the absence of my social studies teacher was worthwhile* I encountered a bus filled to every seat. The spaces left where for my legs to endure until the bus reaches Alabang. I had hoped the travel would be fast.

Standing up was not common, but I didn't do it often. My placement in the bus as I climbed up was interrupted by a concerned comment.

"Hirap ng nakatayo, pero mabilis na kasi ang biyahe dahil puno na."

It was from an old lady sitting beside the window. I don't know if she's terrified of the fact that I was standing up. In such speedy conversation I only got to nod repeatedly in mute agreement with her statement.

As the travel progressed, I began to feel a bit sleepy. School was tiring as it is, and I find a little solace for sleeping while in the bus. However, I was standing up, so that chance would fade. For a while.

My heavy messenger bag suddenly rose up in a strained hassle.

The old lady tried to weigh my bag, checking if my shoulders were being burdened by gravity. She offered her lap for my bag's resting place. I declined profusely, seeing that I would be disturbing her peace of travel due to my bag's extreme mass.

She suggested the luggage counter above.

I obeyed, for respect and gratitude, and I stuffed my huge bag unto the narrow containment. I felt a relief. I got to rest further.

The bus started filling up the remaining standing spaces in the bus. Soon, I was stuffed into the aisle of the bus. Jammed inside, I couldn't bother anyhow. However I couldn't find a comfortable grip.

And there was a drowsy feeling. I was lulled to sleep by the travel, and soon I was sleeping, standing up, propped up for balance in my grip.

My grip loosens up when I lose consciousness. In that very critical moment inertia always gets me. Soon enough, I thrusted forward into another passenger.

Damn.

Sometimes, I would fall down vertically, my knees bending. The last thing that happened is my head hitting another person. Then the bus reached the toll gate.

And the first part of my homely journey was done.
